If you’ve ever visited Mull, you’ll probably know the sight: a huge bird soaring overhead, with an enormous wingspan …. the magnificent white-tailed eagle, or as many like to call it, the flying barn door!
My very first sighting of a sea eagle was at the exact place shown on this map. We were driving towards Killiechronan when a white-tailed eagle flew directly over our car.
I’ve been lucky enough to return to Mull many times since, and I’ve had plenty more unforgettable encounters with these incredible birds. But this painting is inspired by that very first sighting , the one that started it all.
