Golden Plover - Buckden Pike

Golden Plover

The soundtrack of so many of my walks across the Yorkshire Dales has been the unmistakable peep-peep of the golden plover. In the Summer months they return to the uplands to breed, their striking plumage transformed into rich gold above with a bold black face and belly edged in crisp white - a beautiful thing to behold in the moorland landscape.

This 'little joy' places a golden plover over a map of Buckden Pike where I've been lucky enough to encounter them. This little painting brings back memories of fells, open skies and that familiar call echoing across the heather and is a small tribute to one of the true voices of the uplands.
