Kingfisher on a map of the Afon Conwy near Trefriw
Kingfishers are found near clean, shallow, and slow-moving fresh water, including rivers, lakes, and canals.
They are wonderful subjects to paint with those vibrant colours but did you know that Kingfisher feathers contain no blue pigment at all! That blue we see (or think we see) is an extraordinary trick of physics - the colour is created by microscopic air pockets in the feather barbs that scatter light in a way our eyes read as an iridescent electric blue.
This Kingfisher is included in my Little Joys Gallery and priced at only £45 plus postage mounted in a 8x8" mount
