
The Eider Duck, locally known as Cuddy's Duck, holds a special place in the story of Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, off the Northumberland Coast.
in the 7th century. St Cuthbert, the island's beloved hermit and bishop, was said to have offered protection to these gentle sea ducks, forbidding anyone to harm them. Ever since, the EIder has been a living emblem of sanctuary and compassion.
