Ptarmigan studies - £150
Ptarmigan can be found in the high mountains of Scotland and these were seen in Cairngorm's northern corries on a beautiful crisp Winter's day. They are not that easy to pick out in the snow as their plumage turns white in the winter to camouflage themselves from predators such as Golden Eagles but they make a very distinctive noise a bit like a croaking frog which on a still day like this was, makes it easier to locate them.
