Male Redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus)
Redstarts are a favourite of mine and this one posed nicely for a photograph when Gary and I were up in Scotland and I just had to paint him. The Welsh name for Redstart is Tingoch which literally means 'red bum' which describes the bird well!
We saw this particular bird in the Abernethy forest near Loch Garten while up in the Cairngorms National Park. To read more about my love of this area take a look at this blog post
